Toshiba Launches New Family of Analog Video Front-End Processors
New Component Switch Front-End Processors Simplify Analog Interface Design and Enhance the End-User Experience
SAN FRANCISCO, March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC),* a leader in semiconductor solutions for digital consumer products, today announced the first two devices in a new family of analog video front-end processors targeted at television, set-top box, audio/video (A/V) receiver and video converter/switch applications. Designated TB1305FG and TB1308FG, the new integrated circuits (ICs) are component switch front-end processors that perform component video switching and pre-processing for analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). They integrate input terminals for two or three YCbCr (or RGB) signals, a selector switch with one output terminal, an automatic synchronization processor, a real-time format detector for video formats up to 1080p and UXGA, an ADC pre-filter, and a proprietary dummy HD/VD output for picture stabilization in the absence of a video input. Samples are currently available.
"The highly integrated TB1305FG and TB1308FG component switch front-end processors offer ideal solutions for televisions, set-top boxes and other A/V products that process high-bandwidth component video," said David Cruikshank, senior business development engineer for digital consumer products in the ASSP Business Unit at TAEC. "The innovative dummy HD/VD output, real-time format detection, and automatic synchronization are some of the features that not only simplify and speed design but also enhance the end-user experience." He added that the new ICs complement Toshiba's other digital consumer offerings, including tuner ICs, comb filter front-end processors, HDMI receiver, HDTV decoders, microprocessors and single-chip LCD-TV ICs. Additional new products in this family are under development and will be announced in the future.
Highlights of the TB1305FG and TB1308FG component switch front-end processors include the following:
* Feature two-input (TB1305FG) or three-input (TB1308FG) and one-output
YCbCr or RGB component switch (also available for one CVBS or YC
signal)
* Offer a 4.2 to 31MHz variable pre-filter for the A/D converter that
reduces defects and distortion in the video image
* Provide real-time format detection for various television and computer
video formats up to 1080p and UXGA
* Feature automatic synchronization to reduce software design time and
save engineering resources
* Provide dummy HD/VD outputs to maintain a stable picture when no video
signal is input
* Support I(2)C bus control
* Housed in lead-free, pin-compatible QFP48 packaging
Pricing and Availability
Samples of both devices are currently available. Volume production of TB1308FG began this month with volume production of TB1305FG planned to start in March 2005. TB1305FG is priced at $3.00 each in 10,000-piece quantities. TB1308FG is priced at $3.25 each in 10,000-piece quantities.
